Questions About Finding Support
Where can I get help if I think my toddler has a developmental delay in New Jersey?
Contact New Jersey's Early Intervention System at (888) 653-4463. NJEIS serves children with developmental delays or disabilities from birth until their third birthday, with costs based on family income. Your pediatrician can also screen your child and refer you for an evaluation.
How do I check that an ABA provider is certified?
Use the Behavior Analyst Certification Board's public registry at bacb.com/verify-certification to confirm that a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is currently certified. It is also reasonable to ask any provider who will supervise your child's program and how often.
Who can help me with my child's IEP or special education rights in New Jersey?
SPAN Parent Advocacy Network helps New Jersey families navigate special education, and the NJ Department of Education publishes the Parental Rights in Special Education (PRISE) booklet. Our school support and consultation service can also help you understand your child's FBA, behavior plan and IEP behavioral goals.
What is New Jersey's Children's System of Care?
The Children's System of Care is a division of the NJ Department of Children and Families that offers voluntary, no-cost services to youth up to age 21 with emotional, behavioral, developmental or substance use challenges. Families access it through PerformCare at 1-877-652-7624, 24 hours a day.
Where can families in Morris and Sussex Counties find local support?
Morris Sussex ResourceNet, run by Caring Partners of Morris & Sussex, is a directory of support services for families in both counties. Autism New Jersey's helpline, 800-4-AUTISM, can also connect you with services near you. TEAM Behavioral Consultants has centers in Flanders (Morris County) and Augusta (Sussex County).
