About TEAM Behavioral Consultants

Who We Are

TEAM Behavioral Consultants is a New Jersey ABA therapy provider serving children and families across Morris County, Sussex County and the surrounding area, with centers in Flanders and Augusta.

We provide in-home ABA therapy, center-based ABA therapy, school support and consultation, and Kidz Connect social skills groups. Every child’s ABA program is individualized and overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Our goal is not simply to teach skills during a session. It is to help children use those skills throughout their everyday lives — at home, at school and in the community.

Many of the families we work with found us through a recommendation from another family or someone they trust. We take that seriously, and we are always glad to answer questions before you decide anything.

TEAM — Together Everyone Achieves Miracles. Children, families, therapists and school teams, working toward the same goals.

Meet Our Director

Melissa Valent-Altamura, M.Ed, BCBA, is the director of TEAM Behavioral Consultants and has dedicated her career to ABA and autism services since 2006.

Melissa earned her BS in Elementary Education from East Stroudsburg University. While completing her master’s degree in Special Education at the College of Saint Elizabeth, she taught children with autism spectrum disorders and earned certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities. She then completed the Florida Institute of Technology’s graduate professional development program in behavior analysis and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

Melissa has worked with children ages 2 to 21 in homes, public schools and residential settings. Her special interests include early assessment and intervention for children with autism, program development and positive behavior support.

How We Work

  1. Individualized Care - There is no one-size-fits-all approach to ABA. Treatment is built around each child's strengths, needs, preferences and family priorities, and it evolves as your child grows.
  2. BCBA Oversight - A BCBA completes your child's assessment, writes the treatment plan, supervises therapy, reviews progress data and updates goals throughout treatment.
  3. Meaningful Skills - Goals are chosen for the difference they make in everyday life — communication, independence, safety, play and taking part in family and community routines.
  4. Learning Beyond the Session - We work toward your child using new skills with different people, in different places and during real routines, not just when a therapist is present.
  5. Family Collaboration - Parents and caregivers are part of the treatment team. Your BCBA shares practical strategies that fit the routines your family already has.
  6. Coordination With Others - When appropriate, and with your permission, we coordinate with schools and other providers so everyone supporting your child works in the same direction.

Our Clinical Team

Every ABA program at TEAM is designed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) — a graduate-level certification issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

Day-to-day therapy is delivered one-on-one by trained behavior therapists — Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and behavior technicians — who implement the BCBA’s plan, collect data in every session and work under ongoing BCBA supervision.

You can confirm any behavior analyst’s or RBT’s certification on the BACB’s certification registry. Interested in joining us? See our open roles.

What does TEAM stand for?

TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves Miracles. It reflects how we work: children, parents and caregivers, therapists and school teams working toward the same goals.

Where is TEAM Behavioral Consultants located?

We have two centers in Northern New Jersey: 4 Gold Mine Road, Flanders, NJ 07836, serving Morris County, and 122 US Highway 206, Augusta, NJ 07822, serving Sussex County. In-home ABA therapy and school consultation are available throughout Morris County, Sussex County and the surrounding area.

Who will work with my child?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) assesses your child, writes the treatment plan and supervises treatment on an ongoing basis. Day to day, your child works one-on-one with a trained behavior therapist — a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or behavior technician — who implements that plan under BCBA supervision.

What ages do you work with?

Our ABA services are for children and adolescents, including an early intervention program for toddlers 18 months to 3 years. Kidz Connect social skills groups are for children ages 3–10.

How do we get started?

Contact us by phone at (908) 377-0282 or through our contact page. We will talk through your child's needs, check your insurance benefits and schedule an assessment with a BCBA, which becomes your child's individualized treatment plan.
